Conceptual Dimensions of the Body Image in the Drawings of the Artist Amedeo Modigliani

Abstract

This research consists of four chapters. The first chapter presents the research problem، which is formulated in the following question: What are the conceptual dimensions that shape the body image in the drawings of Amedeo Modigliani، and how did formal transformations contribute to the construction of its semantic system?

The significance of this study lies in examining the body image as a conceptual structure that plays a central role in the production of meaning within the discourse of modern art. It is based on the assumption that the transformations in the representation of the body in Modigliani's drawings were not merely formal or stylistic changes; rather، they reflected a system of intellectual and aesthetic references that redefined the body as a carrier of meaning and a medium for expressing human and existential visions.

The need for this research arises from the limited number of studies that have addressed the conceptual dimensions of the body image in Modigliani's drawings and the lack of critical analyses linking formal structure with conceptual significance. Therefore، this study seeks to reveal the nature of this relationship and the mechanisms through which meaning is produced.
