Abstract

This study aims to analyze the manifestations of the humanistic tendency in the poetry of the Iraqi poet Hamid Al-Harizi, through a critical approach based on analytical methodology, in order to uncover the key humanistic themes that occupy a significant space within the structure of his poetic texts. The importance of this research stems from the need to shed light on a poetic experience that has not yet received the scholarly attention it deserves—despite its intellectual richness, emotional depth, and engagement with human concerns on both local and global levels.

The study concludes that the humanistic tendency in Al-Harizi's poetry is not limited to emotional expression or calls for peace, but rather emerges as an epistemological and aesthetic vision that reflects an existential stance toward the world and reality, born from a deep awareness of human suffering and aspirations. This tendency is evident across multiple levels, including: positions on war and social injustice, defense of the poor and marginalized, belief in freedom and human dignity, and rejection of all forms of tyranny.

The linguistic and imagistic analysis of the selected texts reveals that the poet employs a variety of rhetorical techniques to express his humanistic perspective—such as religious and symbolic intertextuality, dense metaphors, and rhythmic structures that serve emotional expression. These techniques lend his poetic experience a distinctive artistic character that matches the depth of its content and reflects his profound engagement with human issues in their various dimensions.

This research constitutes a valuable contribution to critical studies concerned with modern Iraqi poetry, by focusing on the humanistic dimension in the work of a contemporary poet who has not yet been sufficiently explored by literary criticism.
