Linguistic Economy and Its Impact in Guiding Pragmatic Intentions: A Study considering the Theories of Conversational Implicature and Presupposition

Abstract

The research aims to clarify the concept of linguistic economy from a pragmatic perspective, given its importance in the success of the communicative process. It is also considered an effective tool in constructing discourse and guiding the recipient, while maintaining coherence, brevity, and effectiveness. The study is divided into an introduction and two main sections. The introduction addresses the concept of economy in language and examines linguistic economy between tradition and modernity. The first section is entitled “Conversational Implicature and Linguistic Economy,” while the second section discusses “Linguistic Economy through Presupposition.” This is followed by the main findings reached by the study, and finally a list of sources and references.
