The Significance of Grammatical Examples in Ibn Malik's Alfiyya:A Pragmatic Study

Abstract

This study examines “The Pragmatic Significance of Grammatical Examples in Ibn Malik’s Alfiyya: A Pragmatic Study”, aiming to investigate the semantic and communicative dimensions embedded in the grammatical examples presented by Ibn Malik in his Alfiyya, and to demonstrate how these examples extend beyond their grammatical and pedagogical functions to pragmatic functions related to context, intention, and communicative situation.

The study views the grammatical example not merely as a means of explaining grammatical rules, but also as a linguistic structure that can be analyzed in relation to the speaker, the addressee, and the context of use. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, supported by pragmatic analysis, to examine selected grammatical examples from Ibn Malik’s Alfiyya and identify their pragmatic meanings within their linguistic and contextual settings.
