The role of the psychological counselor in enhancing students’ self-concept

This study aims to identify the role of the school counselor in enhancing students’ self-concept as a fundamental component of personality development and psychological and social adjustment. It addresses the concept of self-concept, its dimensions, and its importance in students’ educational and psychological development. The study also highlights the professional roles of the school counselor in developing students’ positive perceptions of themselves. Several counseling strategies are discussed, including individual and group counseling, positive reinforcement, and role-playing. The study emphasizes the importance of cooperation among the school counselor, family, and teachers in providing a supportive educational environment. It concludes that enhancing students’ self-concept contributes to increasing learning motivation, improving academic achievement, and promoting psychological and social adjustment.
