From the above, it becomes clear that the Buyid era went through periods of political, economic, and social instability. These conditions had a significant and noticeable impact on the general state of the country. Among these adverse circumstances, sectarian strife emerged as an unprecedented event in the country, marking a distinctive feature of that era. This is because the Islamic society was unfamiliar with such divisions, which were entirely new to them at the time. People’s positions on these conflicts were divided between supporters and opponents.
Some encouraged and fueled these strifes with power, including certain scholars and ignorant individuals, such as the street fighters and vagabonds. Others opposed them and worked to combat these disputes with wisdom and good counsel, making sincere efforts to prevent the strife. Among these were scholars and thinkers.
One of the key reasons for these issues was the religious openness introduced by the Buyids, which neither the prominent political figures nor the public could handle. The Buyids permitted the establishment of mourning rituals, the hanging of black banners in alleys, markets, and public spaces, as well as the holding of celebratory events that had previously been prohibited and unfamiliar.
Additionally, the ignorance of the public, along with other reasons mentioned throughout the study, led to shameful acts such as insults, slander, attacks, burning, looting, theft, the desecration of sacred sites, and the exile of individuals—all among people of the same religion, nation, Prophet, and holy book. However, these conflicts did not last long due to the intervention of scholars and wise individuals, whose efforts brought an end to the strife and restored unity among members of the same society
